Tasting note

Felice Barossa Valley Shiraz has hints of delicious plum and an elegance of dark fruit with added notes of spice and slight pepper. Hints of ironstone and dusty earth, full of super generous flavours with loads of complexity and texture.

Vineyard

Felice comes from right in the heart of Marananga, from vines that are now more than 100 years old. This allows the wine to pick up many characters that this sub region of the Barossa provides, including a slightly earthy influence.

Vintage

The 2022 vintage had favourable conditions in spring which provided ideal flowering and fruit set. Summer was relatively mild providing optimal growing conditions. Harvest began late in March and went well into late April, giving rich and balanced flavours and colour.

Winemaking

Our fruit is picked at the optimum time to allow it to fully ripen, achieving the perfect balance of alcohol, acid and fruit before it is harvested, gently crushed and open fermented. It is then allowed to settle in a combination of new and old oak both French and American.

Technical Details

We have done all the work so the wine is ready to drink now, or if you can resist the temptation it will age nicely for a further 20 years.

Reviews

This is splendidly fruited and fragrant on the nose, showing blackberry, star anise, game, and toasty oak characters. The succulent palate delivers good weight and silky flow, wonderfully structured by layers of polished tannins, offering terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2034.

Sam Kim – Wine Orbit

This excellent wine comes from right in the heart of Marananga, from vines that are now more than 100 years old. It picks up a lot of the characters of this excellent sub-region in the Barossa. There’s a hint of ironstone and dusty earth, complementing the delicious, full and generous fruit flavours. Loads of plum, licorice, dark chocolate, some dried herbs and that little bit of minerality provide tremendous complexity and interest. Yet it remains seamlessly structured and presented with silky fine tannins and fine-grain oak, really pulling it all together. It’s a pretty smart wine.

Score: 96/100
Cellar: 20 years
