A classic GSM in style, this wine was initially intended to be used as a blending wine, but after barrel tastings, we couldn’t blend it away—it was just too good. It displays all the true characteristics of a traditional GSM with notes of red fruits, plums, and vanilla. Its medium body is vibrant with a velvety smooth yet structured finish.

Description

A classic GSM in style, this wine was initially intended to be used as a blending wine, but after barrel tastings, we couldn’t blend it away—it was just too good. It displays all the true characteristics of a traditional GSM with notes of red fruits, plums, and vanilla. Its medium body is vibrant with a velvety smooth yet structured finish.

Tasting note

Combining our two estate grown Shiraz and Mataro grapes with our neighbouring vineyards Grenache, this vibrant style of GSM has all the spiced plum, red berries and savoury flavours, well balanced by a soft and creamy backbone that delivers and exceptional finish.

Vineyard

Interwoven between three beautiful creeks sits our vineyard featuring vines over 27 years old over three classic grape varietals, Shiraz, Mataro, and GSM. It is this patch on the Western side of the Barossa where some of the best grapes in some of Australia’s most iconic wines were harvested, and Triple Creek Wines are no exception.

Vintage

Starting the 2022 vintage was the wettest winter on record since 1996. Spring was relatively cool and wet, and even experienced an extreme hailstorm that decimated some vineyards. We were lucky enough to avoid the worst of it. A mild summer and some rain in February allowed for ideal ripening conditions. The fruit from the 2022 vintage is elegant, structured with good colour, depth and length of flavour.

Winemaking Details

Our fruit is picked at the optimum time to allow it to fully ripen to get the perfect balance of alcohol, acid and fruit before it is hand picked and gently crushed. Open fermented and finished in both French and American Oak.

Reviews

This is immediately appealing on the nose with dark berry, mixed spice, game and roasted nut characters, followed by a silky-smooth palate offering juicy fruit intensity with fleshy texture and finely infused tannins. Beautifully rounded and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2032.

Sam Kim – Wine Orbit

This is a rich and smooth expression of these three varieties. The shiraz and mataro come off the Triple Creek properties, and the grenache is bought from a nearby property, so essentially, it’s all in the same area. Bright red fruits with a little savouriness, spice, dark plum and cherry, smooth succulent palate, rich flavours, good concentration, very nicely balanced with some subtle oak, deeply flavoursome wine.

Score: 93/100
